i… i unironically love james blunt.

So clearly I’m falling down on the job because I didn’t bother to write anything about 30 Rock or The Office today.  I was too busy downloading “You’re Beautiful” and “Goodbye My Lover” by James Blunt.

I’ve been hearing snatches of these songs all over the place, often in parody sorts of things, situations where someone needed a song conveying an OVER THE TOP AMOUNT OF ANGST.  But the first time I actually heard either one was when I watched a Doctor Who fanvid, a shippy Doctor/Rose vid, set to “Goodbye My Lover,” and mock me all you like for my shipper tendencies but the song stuck with me even though I had no idea who it was by.  So today I finally bothered to look them up and listen to them properly and… and… I’m in love.

What is wrong with me???  Clearly I need some Flobots or White Stripes or something to clear my palette and remind me what my usual taste in music is…

recasting state of play

The BBC miniseries State of Play has been on my to-watch list for some time now.  I haven’t gotten around to actually watching it yet, but even so I know it must be awesome, because it has pretty much every single one of my favorite BBC actors except David Tennant in it.  I definitely need to make time to see it before the American remake comes out later this year.

When the original BBC cast was so amazing, how do you recast it with Hollywood types without losing that high level of awesomeness?  Whoever did the casting for the remake really rose to the challenge.  Allow me to explain.

intrigued by doctor who promo pics

I know next to nothing about the actual plot of the upcoming Doctor Who Easter special, Planet of the Dead*, but these photos are enough to make me look forward to it.  There’s a bus!  And what looks like Tatooine!  And aliens with insect heads!  And the Doctor is wearing sunglasses!  Count me in.

*What, are we just recycling bits from previous Tenth Doctor episode titles now?  Is the next special going to be “Forest of the Ood”?

catching up

Yep, I’m back, and my break was fabulous, thanks for asking.  And as an added bonus, I now have an entire week’s worth of new TV episodes to watch in one marathon sitting!  It’s like having a great meal at a nice restaurant, and coming home to find that your roommates had a party while you were gone and left you an enormous slice of chocolate cake to eat for dessert at your leisure.  Join me while I have my cake and eat it too.  (This post is just the dramas, but I might do a separate one for Flight of the Conchords, 30 Rock, and The Office.  Castle will get a post all its own.)

doctor who fanvid of the day: friday

Okay, I am totally cheating because this is not really a Doctor Who fanvid so much as a David Tennant fanvid… but it does use a lot of clips from Doctor Who.  And it makes me happy.  So there.  I am shameless.

doctor who fanvid of the day: thursday

This is probably the single best Doctor Who vid I have ever seen.  It also hold a special place in my heart for introducing me to Flobots, who are now one of my favorite bands.

doctor who fanvid of the day: wednesday

This one is, sadly, unfinished.  But what there is of it is awesome.

doctor who fanvid of the day: tuesday

I couldn’t do a week of Doctor Who fanvids without posting one shippy Doctor/Rose one – sorry.  In my mind, “At the Beginning” will always be the Doctor and Rose’s song, and this is the best vid I’ve found to it.

doctor who fanvid of the day: monday

“Your lord and master stands on high!”  We all know the Master’s a little power hungry.  He’d really, really like to rule the world.  He’s looking forward to it.  In fact, you might even say, he, uh, can’t wait to be king.

submerged dalek discovered in britain

Volunteers clearing rubbish out of a pond in England uncovered an actual Dalek!  Okay, the article says it was probably left behind by a Doctor Who production crew back in the Colin Baker days.  But I’d rather see this as evidence that Daleks, and therefore the Doctor himself, actually exist.  Clearly this is an artifact from a past attempted Dalek invasion of the UK.
