catching up

Yep, I’m back, and my break was fabulous, thanks for asking.  And as an added bonus, I now have an entire week’s worth of new TV episodes to watch in one marathon sitting!  It’s like having a great meal at a nice restaurant, and coming home to find that your roommates had a party while you were gone and left you an enormous slice of chocolate cake to eat for dessert at your leisure.  Join me while I have my cake and eat it too.  (This post is just the dramas, but I might do a separate one for Flight of the Conchords, 30 Rock, and The Office.  Castle will get a post all its own.)

Dollhouse 1×04: The Gray Hour

Dude, I kind of love Topher now!  He was all “OMG we have to save Echo!”  And also all indignant about not being told the truth about Alpha!  You go, man, even if what you do for a living is kind of really creepy.  In other news, Boyd continues to be freaking awesome.

House 5×17: The Social Contract

What a great episode – the patient-of-the-week storyline was entertaining, and even better, we got a storyline focused on the friendship between House and Wilson.  Any episode with a lot of screentime for Wilson wins my vote of approval.  Also, Kutner is a Harry Potter fan!

Life 2×17: Shelf Life

I love how awkward Tidwell, Crews, and Stark are with each other without Dani around to browbeat them all into semi-normal behavior.  Still, even with her away at what roomie and I have dubbed “pregnancy taskforce,” Crews continues to wield his unique blend of goofiness and cucumber cool: spotting the guys’ reflections in the girl’s mirrored sunglasses?  Whoa.  In other news, Ted is the awesomest awesome that ever awesomed, and WHAT WAS DANI DOING ON RAYBORN’S BOAT???  I love this show.

Lie To Me 1×06: Do No Harm

We finally learned the source of the stress in Gillian’s marriage: a failed adoption.  Again, I love the friendship between Gillian and Cal.  The creators were smart to make the characters independent contractors instead of cops, because it removes a lot of the limitations on what they can and can’t do.  Oh, quick note for you Whovians, the actress playing the African author was Cathica on the Doctor Who episode “The Long Game.”

Bones 4×15: The Bones That Foam

Ahh, lock-downs in the lab; what fun.  Watching Cam, Hodgins, and the adorable Mr. Vincent “I’m secreting adrenaline!” Nigel-Murray scurry around trying to solve the puzzle of the melting bones was extremely entertaining.  The case itself with the over-the-top used car salesmen was pretty silly, but I bet David Boreanaz had a lot of fun directing it (particularly the lap dance scene!), and I liked Angela telling Brennan that Booth sometimes acts dumber than he actually is because he knows how much Brennan likes being “the smart one.”  Awww.  I can’t wait for when those two have the sex.

Dollhouse 1×05: True Believer

Is it normal to be thirteen minutes into an episode before getting the title sequence?  Anyway, eyeball surgery = very squicky, but it allowed Echo to infiltrate a cult as a blind woman, while back at the Dollhouse Topher and the doctor (can’t remember her name) watched Victor for erections (that bit was hilarious).  As the plot unfolds, this show is really starting to find its feet, very Joss-y but with a vision distinct from Buffy and Firefly, and I’m getting more and more comfortable with Eliza Dushku’s acting.  Plus Boyd is just magnificent.  I love Boyd.
