excerpt from laurie king’s new book

There is a new book coming out in one of my favorite series in April – the series is the Mary Russell series by Laurie R. King, and the new book is called The Language of Bees.  The first two chapters were released online as a teaser today.

I discovered The Beekeeper’s Apprentice, the first book in the series, when I was a freshman in high school, and it remains one of my top five favorite novels today.  Set in England in 1915, it follows the adventures of teenage orphan Mary Russell as she learns the art of deduction from none other than Sherlock Holmes himself.  Having read quite a few of the original Holmes stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, I was originally pretty hostile toward the idea of anyone else trying to write Holmes, but Russell and Laurie R. King won me over.  If you like historical fiction, strong female characters, or both, or if you’re a woman who secretly loves Sherlock Holmes, this series if for you.
